How to Use This Calculator

Set your footbag diameter (most freestyle bags are 1.8"–2.2"), then adjust the fill weights in grams. The calculator shows you how much volume each fill type takes up and whether it all fits in your bag. Use the fill weight slider to scale all fills proportionally, or the fill level slider to target a specific fullness. This works for any sand-filled hacky sack or multi-fill footbag.

Understanding Fill Level

Fill level is how full the bag is as a percentage of internal volume. Higher fill levels make the bag firmer and rounder; lower fill makes it floppier and easier to stall.

Choosing Your Fill Mix

Steel is the densest fill — it gives weight without taking much space. Most of your bag's weight comes from steel. Rubber crumb adds responsiveness and a softer feel. Plastic pellets are lightweight filler that add volume and a distinctive rattle. A common freestyle mix is 70–80% steel by weight, with the rest split between rubber and plastic.

About the Densities

The bulk densities used here were measured by pouring each fill type into a container and weighing it — so they include the air gaps between pellets, which is what matters when filling a bag. Material density (how dense a single pellet is) would be higher, but bulk density tells you how much space a pile of fill actually takes up.
